Existing Micrografx Designer users were in for a shock when the first major release under the Corel brand was launched - it was unrecognisable. The Designer 10 interface was radically different and so were the program's features. While there were many welcome new additions, such as gradient meshes and fractal fills, core technical capabilities like hatching and filleting had simply gone AWOL, leaving it unclear whether this was an upgrade or an entirely new release. In fact, it was neither; rather than developing the Micrografx program, Corel had instead reworked its existing DRAW engine to target the more technical user.
