Best Answer: The Armstrong saxophone carries a brand name that is more often associated with flutes, clarinets, and piccolos. Many beginning band players have gotten their woodwind start playing one of these instruments. Currently, Armstrong is part of the Conn family of musical instrument brands and only makes flutes, clarinets, and piccolos, but you can find an Armstrong saxophone from time to time. Armstrong made saxophones in the 1980's.

The saxophones were made in Elkhart, IN, like so many other band instruments have been down through the years. A used saxophone like one of these will probably need to be serviced by a professional musical instrument repairman before it will be suitable for playing. Since it may have been sitting in someone's attic for years, it may need pads replaced and other adjustments, and a new mouthpiece may be needed.

Armstrong did start out as an independent manufacturer making flutes, clarinets, and saxophones; in the 1970's the line was acquired by United Musical Instruments (UMI), a band instrument conglomerate which had previously acquired G.C. Conn and King. Around the turn of the 21st century Steinway Brands acquired both UMI and Selmer and merged them into a presently existing entity called Conn-Selmer. What should you sell the horn for? Try an eBay search for a present or past auction of such an instrument; remember that things like dents and lacquer imperfections (not as important as significant dents) do influence resale value. Or, try some of the online sellers of used/vintage instruments to see what full retail for such an instrument is. The difference between retail and wholesale is guarantee of condition; retail sellers purportedly have the instrument playing well, whereas a wholesale instrument may be somewhat mechanically rough and accordingly priced less. • Tell us some more • Upload in Progress • Upload failed.
